LaTonya Smith

Senior Consultant

LaTonya Smith, Senior Consultant for MAYA Consulting, is passionate about creating equitable learning environments for historically marginalized students and communities. LaTonya has spent serval years working with organizations and higher education institutions to improve & restructure teacher development systems and pipelines that will result in higher student achievement and engagement.

LaTonya has 18 years of experience in education, 13 of which involve campus administration, district-level leadership, and talent management. Prior to joining MAYA, LaTonya served as Director of New Teacher Development for KIPP Texas where she was responsible for creating and executing a new teacher development strategy for all KIPP Texas regions and managed the network’s partnership with Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay GSE).

LaTonya graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Reading and English, as well as a Master of Arts in Counseling. She obtained her certification in Education Administration from the University of St. Thomas and her doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with a specialization in Teaching and Teacher Education from the University of Houston.

When not working, LaTonya enjoys spending time with her son as they take on new adventures, and she will hardly ever pass on a brunch invitation.
