MAYA is thrilled to share that two of our partner campuses have been nominated by the Texas Education Agency for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon School Awards.  This year TEA nominated 25 campuses for this prestigious award. Please join us in congratulating Springlake-Earth Elementary and Middle School and Kerr High School of Alief ISD for their nominations.

The National Blue Ribbon Award was initiated by the United States Department of Education in 1982 and recognizes schools that have high student achievement and/or highlights where exemplary progress has been made in closing achievement gaps among student subpopulations. Over the past thirty years, 9,000 schools across the country have received this prestigious designation.

The Springlake-Earth Elementary and Middle school opened its doors as the first rural Accelerating Campus Excellence (ACE) campus in the State of Texas in Fall of 2019. This new model is supported by TEA’s School Action Fund, a program designed to support bold school actions, including new school models, to improve student achievement.  MAYA has partnered with Springlake-Earth ISD for the past three years as a technical assistance provider and witnessed the commitment to excellence and equity by school and community members in Springlake-Earth.

As part of the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), a TEA program to pay and retain highly effective teachers, Alief ISD is supporting candidates in National Board Certification Training.  One of the fourteen candidates in this year’s cohort is an educator at Kerr High School in Alief ISD. MAYA is partnering with Alief ISD to design and facilitate training, as well as support these candidates through the two year program to earn their National Board Certification and Recognized Distinction, the highest tier within the TIA.

The past two years have been filled with challenges and opportunities for districts across the state of Texas. MAYA recognizes that every educator, leader, caretaker, and community member are doing their best to support students through their educational journey. We are constantly filled with gratitude for each and everyone one of our partners. We look forward to supporting Springlake-Earth Elementary/Middle School and Alief ISD on their continued path towards excellence and equity.
