Veronica Cavazos

Strategist

Veronica Cavazos, a MAYA Strategist, brings 19 years of experience in K-12, nonprofit, and higher education. She began her career as a 4th-grade bilingual education teacher in her hometown of Laredo, TX. Before joining MAYA, Veronica served as Associate Director at Austin Partners in Education. She specialized in designing a wide range of postsecondary attainment programs, including integrated college readiness services and capacity-building projects for ECHS and P-TECH schools. As the Director of Academic Advising & Student Success at Laredo Community College, Veronica developed a strategic recruitment and retention plan to make advising, counseling, and career services more accessible to students and led the expansion of the college’s dual credit initiative.

As a member of the Postsecondary Team at MAYA, Veronica collaborates with the Texas Impact Network to support ten school districts through the Rural CCMR Accelerator program. Veronica holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in public administration from Texas A&M International University. Veronica is an avid photographer and enjoys spending time at art museums and watching binge-worthy television with her family.
